What is Extended Access Service?

Extended Access is the offer of an appointment to register patients of a GP practice, these are pre-
booked appointments and on-the-day appointments which are delivered outside of the GP’s
contractual hours, in the evening between 18:30-20:00 or on Weekends from 09:00 – 17:00. The
appointment will be provided at a location in the area you live in.

Extended Access to primary care was introduced by NHS England in 2016 to ensure everyone has
easier and more convenient access to GP services, including physical and telephone appointments in
the evening or on weekends.

How do I book an appointment with the EAS?

Booking is easy as using our online consultation button or calling the surgery and asking for an EAS
late evening or weekend appointment, weekend appointments are bookable two weeks in advance
with a GP, Nurse, or Health Care Assistant.

Can I just walk in and be seen?

No Walk-in appointments are available, this service is strictly by appointment only.

What does this service cover?

The service is for routine appointments only; not for urgent or emergency care.

Does this mean I will be guaranteed an appointment when I want it?

Unfortunately, we cannot ‘guarantee’ an appointment when you want it due to a range of factors
e.g. the following, and is not limited to, capacity & demand.
